Deaf and Mute

song five from  After Six Days

Deaf and Mute - He is making music of a different kind, but I cannot hear it or sing it.  I need Him to transform this for me. And even that is part of the music He is making.

Deaf and Mute. (Mark 7:31-37)  November 30, 2004 I was reading reading Mark 7:31-37.  I wrote in my journal “..maybe He sighed because it reminded Him of our general situation…, we can't hear, and we can hardly express ourselves.  it's so hard to say what we want to say, and when we do manage to put it into words it's inadequate, and we're not understood.”  After this follow the words for Deaf and Mute.  He is making music of a different kind but I cannot hear it or sing it if He doesn't touch me and change even this for me.    The line “lead me out of the village” is from the verses about the blind man a little farther in Mark.  It just seemed to fit the song and what was in my heart, the request to lead me to where He can touch me.

*trivia - the next day I wrote “A Few Small Fish”, the first song on my album A Few Small Fish

Deaf And Mute Lyrics.

I am the deaf and mute man standing before You

I dont' hear so well, and it's hard to understand me

Cause I don't speak so plainly.

Lead me out of the village

to a place where You can touch me

to a place where I am free to receive from You.

Put Your fingers in my ears and open them up

then, spit, if You will, and touch my tongue

Let my ears hear and my tongue move

For You

There is treasure in the words and stories of those around me

If only I had the ears to hear what they would say to me

and there's a story in my heart that is longing to be set free

but my tongue doesn't want to submit, won't be mastered and ruled by me.

Lead me out of the village

to a place where You can touch me

to a place where I am free to receive from You

Put Your fingers in my ears and open them up

then, spit, if You will and touch my tongue

Let my ears hear and my tongue move

for You

And what I think I hear is as mixed up

as what they think I said

And all our words are so inadequate

there's so much to say and no good way to say it

Lead me out of the village

to a place where You can touch me

to a place where I am free to receive from You

Put Your fingers in my ears and open them up

then, spit, if You will, and touch my tongue

Let my ears hear and my tongue move

for You

Put Your fingers in my ears and open them up

then, spit, if You will, and touch my tongue

Let my ears hear and my tongue move

for You
