A Heart That Lives
song eight from After Six Days
A Heart That Lives …in order to learn to love and live this transformed life, I need a living heart, and there's only one way to get it - let Him remove the old and give the new. This transformation is painful, to do it I have to die to myself.
A Heart That Lives. (Mark 8:34-35, Ezek. 36:26). In order to learn to love and live this life of transformation, I need a new heart, a living one. And there's only one way to get it. Follow Him away from the things I think will fill me that are all empty without Him, and let HIm remove my old heart and give me a new one. The process is painful. To do it I have to die to myself. I wrote a Heart That Lives 18 Dec. 2004 while reading Mark 8. My journal entry has the day's date, the reference to the passage (Mark 8) at the top and then the words to this song. I don't remember if I just opened my Bible and journal and wrote it down, or if I thought about it awhile. At the end of it I wrote “…Father, I really don't know how to die to myself - not only do I not know how, but most of the timeI don't really want to, either…I've so much to learn. Help me to love today…(songs and poems about lofty thoughts don't mean much if I can't live them.)” The song references Mark 8:34-35 and also Ezek. 36:26.
A Heart That Lives Lyrics
Here's my cross
look at it hard
what do you see?
only wood.
And here's my heart
it's so red
full of blood
almost dead.
Two little things yet so much depends on them
Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him
Let HIm rip out your heart, give you a heart of flesh
A heart that lives.
What is my life?
Without Him?
Selfishness
full of sin.
The cross is just wood,
My life just wind
My heart just dust
Without Him.
He took up His cross for me, so I could live
I'll deny myself, take up my cross, and follow Him
Let Him rip out my heart, give me a heart of flesh
A heart that lives.
Here's my life
take it, now
I don't know how to die
please, show me how.
Here's my life
take it, now
I don't know how to die,
please, show me how
He took up His cross for me, so I could live
I'll deny myself, take up my cross and follow HIm
Let Him rip out my dying heart, and give me a heart of flesh
A heart that lives
A heart that lives
A heart that lives
A heart that lives.
