  I moved to Siberia in my mid twenties.  Some years later I wrote this song sitting at my window in Novosibirsk a few days before Christmas in 2008, looking at huge snowdrifts outside and thinking about Christmases past and how different my Christmases then were, and how far away we were from a lot of family and friends. And now it still seems like no matter where we are, we're always away from someone for Christmas. So  for all those who who are feeling out of place or missing someone at Christmas this year....

 Christmas is Wherever You Are

Minus forty outside my window
Enough snow to make up for
Twenty years of Christmases that were not white
I won't be there for Christmas
And Christmas here is different
But I'll still be celebrating in my heart tonight
And though I'm far away
from so many loved ones today
And the distance lies so heavy on my heart
Still I'll keep following that star
And rejoice in where it's led so far
